Meeting of the IT M&A working group on February 28

Digitalization is changing the way we work and live, but are these changes also being felt in the mergers & acquisitions sector? In May 2018, the IT M&A working group met to investigate this question with the study “Change in M&A through digitalization”.

The online survey was conducted from July to November 2018 and was completed by M&A experts, many of whom have management experience and usually five or more years of M&A experience.

In February 2019, the working group met again to discuss the results of the study and identify further areas of activity for the working group. The results show that the dominant expectation among respondents is that digital technologies will change the early phases of an M&A transaction in particular.

Another noticeable scenario is the acquisition of young “digital companies”, with the focus currently on key technologies that offer analytical character or platform potential. In the context of due diligence, it is becoming apparent that IT experts are being involved at an ever earlier stage, often right at the beginning of the process.

It is striking that the implementation of digital maturity assessments is still low, but is expected to become a regular assessment component by 2021.
